Imran Khan, the chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has announced the “Jail Bahro Tehreek” to court arrest and fill jails beginning on February 22.
The former prime minister said in a video message to the country that party leaders and activists would cram jails as a form of protest against government tyranny of the people and violations of the rule of law.
According to him, the “Jail Bahrao Tehreek” will start in Lahore and fill the jails daily before spreading to the rest of the nation.
He claimed that the government is aiming to prevent them from engaging in rights-related protests. When there is a chance that he would be arrested, he thanks the party workers who have gathered outside his house.
In order to have elections within 90 days, the PTI Chairman said that the assemblies of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were dissolved. But, neither the governors of the two provinces nor the electoral commission have made any headway in holding the caretaker arrangement for even one more day.
He cited the paucity of funding and security concerns as reasons why the ECP has demonstrated its inability in organizing elections. He stated that because all institutions are required to work together and maintain the rule of law, the judiciary should put the Constitution into practice when conducting elections.
